This is one of my favorite childhood meals. Tahri (also tehri, tehari or tayari) is a yellow rice dish in Awadhi cuisine. Spices are added to plain cooked rice for flavor and colour. In one version of Tehri, potatoes are added to the rice.
Instructions to make Tehri:
- Heat oil in a cooker add chopped onions and panch foron masala and bay leaves to it.
- When your onions become golden brown add ginger garlic paste to it.
- Then add all the spices and mix well.
- Cook for 2-3 mins then add chopped potatoes to it.
- Fry potatoes for 2 mins then add rice to it.
- Add some water and close the lid of the cooker.
- Cook for 2 whistles one on high flame and one on slow.
- Turn off the flame and let the steam pressure comes down.
- Then open the lid of the cooker and your tehri is ready to serve.
- Enjoy your tehri with achar or raita.
